Gowon Calls For Selfless Agenda Ahead of National Conference

Former military head of state and elder statesman, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) has urged Nigerians not to view the national conference as a platform for advancing their selfish demands but an avenue to seek ways of improving Nigeria as a whole.
Gowon made this appeal in London while sharing his thoughts on the state of the nation during an award ceremony by the beneficiaries of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foreign postgraduate scholarship scheme for exceptional NYSC participants in 2011 during the weekend.
Gowon, who was presented with an award for exemplary leadership, lamented the lack of continuity of projects in successive governments noting that it is “an experience I had firsthand”.
He further called on governments at all levels to focus on the economic development plan.
The gathering was in honor of some eminent Nigerians and their impact in the national youth service corps scheme which was pioneered by general gowon’s administration.
